Description: A Design Engineer is available in Syracuse, New York through Belcan. In this role, you will be responsible for Designing and implementing tool layouts for all CNC Department Programs, program various types of CNC Machines including Milling, Turning, Drilling, Tapping and Punching. To qualify for this position, you will possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least one year of applicable experience.

DESIGN ENGINEER-CNC

Summary of Position:

This position is accountable to design and implement tool layouts for all NC-CNC Department in support of continuous improvement in the manufacturing processes in optimizing productivity.

Essential Functions:

A. Design and implement tool layouts for all NC-CNC Department Programs, program various types of CNC Machines including Milling, Turning, Drilling, Tapping and Punching.

B. Assist in designing new tooling and/or special machinery which will provide for the economical production of Crouse-Hinds products.

C. Redesign existing tooling, update tool drawings, and revise records, as required by changes in manufacturing processes.

D. Provide technical service to all factory areas in the proper and efficient use of tooling and the solution of tooling problems.

E. As directed by Supervisor, investigate and analyze manufacturing and machining problems by inspecting machine setups, tooling, casting, or other possible causes, and determine corrective action.

F. Determine the most efficient method of machining, the proper speeds and feed for the material or materials to be cut, and any special tooling.

G. Assist in designing all types of tooling, including jigs, fixtures, gauges, dies, cutting tools, special machines, machine accessories, machine attachments and/or other devices.

H. Investigate quality problems, relative to machining and take corrective action on defective tooling and or improper manufacturing methods. Coordinate tool room and tool grinding services, as required to expedite corrective action.

I. Provide technical assistance to solve manufacturing and machining problems, relative to the proper use of tooling.

J. Conduct studies to evaluate tool efficiencies in high cost areas.

Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

At least one year of applicable experience

  • Conduct research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems.
  • Design test control apparatus or equipment or develop procedures for testing products.
  • Provide feedback to design engineers on customer problems or needs.
  • Research and analyze customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, or other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, or maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Estimate costs or submit bids for engineering, construction, or extraction projects.
  • Recommend the use of utility or energy services that minimize carbon footprints.
  • Evaluate mechanical designs or prototypes for energy performance or environmental impact.
  • Direct the installation, operation, maintenance, or repair of renewable energy equipment, such as heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) or water systems.
  • Design integrated mechanical or alternative systems, such as mechanical cooling systems with natural ventilation systems, to improve energy efficiency.
  • Apply engineering principles or practices to emerging fields, such as robotics, waste management, or biomedical engineering.
  • Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.
  • Perform personnel functions, such as supervision of production workers, technicians, technologists, or other engineers.
  • Calculate energy losses for buildings, using equipment such as computers, combustion analyzers, or pressure gauges.
  • Solicit new business.
  • Provide technical customer service.
  • Study industrial processes to maximize the efficiency of equipment applications, including equipment placement.
  • Establish or coordinate the maintenance or safety procedures, service schedule, or supply of materials required to maintain machines or equipment in the prescribed condition.
  • Select or install combined heat units, power units, cogeneration equipment, or trigeneration equipment that reduces energy use or pollution.
